What it is, and how to actually use it. A two-minute read.
You don't have to read all of this. If you'd rather just dive in, open your CompassOps folder in the Claude app and type hello, CompassOps takes it from there. But this makes it click faster.
Haven't set up yet? The step-by-step setup with screenshots (get Claude, install the app, open the folder) is on the welcome page. Come back here once you're in.
Three pieces, so none of it feels like a mystery:
In plain terms: you use CompassOps, in a workspace called The Compass, powered by Claude. You don't think about the engine. You just talk to CompassOps and it does the work.
That's the whole start. In the Claude app, with your CompassOps folder open, type hello.
There's nothing to open or set up first. Saying hello kicks off everything: CompassOps welcomes you, asks a few quick questions to learn your business (paste your website, or just describe what you sell), and then makes you something real on the spot.
Rather talk than type? Use your computer's voice typing. On Windows, press the Windows key and H, then speak. On a Mac, turn on Dictation.
Answer in plain words. You're not filling out a form, you're talking to a sharp new helper. You can't get it wrong, and you can add detail or fix anything anytime. It gets to know your business a little better every time you use it.
CompassOps will offer to make you something real, right then. A week of social posts, or an email to your customers. Pick one.
Watch what comes back. It sounds like your shop, not generic AI. That's the whole point, and everything you ask for after works the same way.
Just talk to it like a helper. Two tricks worth remembering:
1. Forget what it can do? Type: what can you do
It shows you the whole list, grouped and in plain English. Nothing to memorize.
2. Got something you do over and over? Have it build you a tool.
Say "I keep retyping the same rental reply, can you make that easier?" and it builds you a custom tool in a few minutes. No developer, no new software. Then ask for that tool by name whenever you need it. This is the part nobody else has.
Beyond that, just ask:
You mostly never open files, just ask and it handles them. But two spots are worth knowing:
output folder is where your finished work gets saved: posts, emails, descriptions, everything. Grab a piece anytime. (Or just ask: "show me the posts you made.")shop-profile.md is what CompassOps knows about your business and how you sound. Tweak it yourself, or tell CompassOps "update my profile" and it does it.Everything else runs CompassOps behind the scenes. Ignore it.
It gives you a straight answer. If an idea might not work, it tells you why, then leaves the call to you. Useful, not just agreeable.
It never sends or posts for you. It writes and prepares. You always review and hit send.
The whole shop can use it. You, your marketing person, your bench tech, whoever, each for their own work. One tool for the crew, all in your shop's voice.
Need a different voice sometimes? Just ask: "make this more formal," or "this is for a wholesale buyer." And if there's a situation you write differently for regularly, tell it once ("for supplier emails, sound more buttoned-up") and it remembers.
A quick note on the AI model. CompassOps works on any Claude model, so you don't have to think about it, the default is fine. If you ever want to tune it, there's a model picker at the bottom of the chat box. The simple version: the more powerful models think harder, which is great for strategy or building a tool, but they use up your monthly Claude allowance faster. The lighter, faster ones are perfect for everyday writing and stretch your allowance further. When in doubt, leave the default and get to work.
You won't break anything, so poke around. If something's confusing, just reach out, I answer personally: hello@compassops.io. (A member community is coming soon.)
